What is Biodynamic Bodywork?
bio = life
dynamic = a force or factor that controls or influences a process of growth, change, interaction, or activity…
Growth, change, interaction and activity all imply movement. Biodynamic bodywork moves with life’s forces that bring growth, change, interaction and activity.
Biodynamic Massage…
Biodynamic massage offers an integrative and non-motive approach to promote full body health. Combining the principals of craniosacral therapy and traditional deep tissue massage. This type of bodywork is present and patient, allowing for long holds to give the body time to unwind, release and return to its natural state of being. While the majority of “techniques” used may feel similar to standard massage techniques you’ve experienced before, the approach makes all the difference.
Thoroughly warming the connective tissue to increase blood flow and circulation before using (potentially) deeper pressure to unravel restricted areas of tightness or stagnation, taking time to be still when needed and then integrating with long soothing strokes. This type of bodywork is patient, allowing for long holds to give the body time to unwind, release and return to its natural state of being.
Biodynamic Craniosacral…
A gentle, non-invasive yet potent form of touch with less overall movement from the practitioner, and long periods of stillness and holding. While it is a more gentle approach than “regular” massage, deeper pressure may be used when appropriate. Anyone can receive and benefit from this work, including those in too much pain or sympathetic activation for other forms of massage. This work is excellent for folks who have experienced recent impact trauma (ie a car accident, fall, or TBI). It can help to resolve physical and emotional issues, increases vitality, and acts as a catalyst for your body, mind and souls innate insight and clarity. This treatment is done on a massage table, often clothed (in ideally comfortable clothing).. All ages are welcome, including babies and children.
A note about the therapeutic relationship…
Building a trusting relationship between your body and your body worker can have a profound impact on reaching deeper levels of physical ease and the release of holding patterns. Repeated experiences of this level of trust can offer greater outcomes in nervous system regulation and pain reduction. Know that for some clients it can take more than one session to receive lasting benefits - for others, a single session can have immediate, deep and long lasting results. The road to health is not linear and for many there is no final destination, it is meandering and best explored with care and curiosity.
My approach to bodywork…
I think of body work as both a physical and a metaphysical practice. Melding functional body mechanics with the unseen energetic subtle body systems. We work with the form (your physical body, your fascia), the fluid (synovial fluid, cerebro-spinal fluid, the rivers of your body) and the field (your nervous system, your intangible being). I approach every unique body with reverence and respect. Recognizing that you’ve known your body much longer than I have. I will always defer to what feels right to you.
My practice is informed by countless hours of continuing education. What lights me up the most is studying and working with the myofascial system, biodynamic massage, craniosacral therapy and internal pelvic attunement.
I approach the body like an ecosystem, recognizing there are countless parts that make up the whole. Instead of applying predetermined protocols I use deep listening and inner stillness to follow the intelligence and health already operating within your body. This allows held places to be freed and reintegrated into the rest of the system, profoundly reducing stress and tension in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual layers of the body.
We’ll often begin your session with a cup of tea where we are given the time to shift into the slower speed of this work and tune into where you are at mentally, emotionally, physically, and energetically. In this time you can let me know if there are any specific things (physical, emotional or energetic) that you’re wanting addressed or worked with throughout the session. Because of the way I approach my practice no two treatments will be the same. I will be meeting you and your system where you’re at every time you lay down on my table.
